What is headache?

Headache-One of the most common medical complaints in today’s fast paced and hectic world. Almost everybody sometimes suffers from headaches
Headache can be experienced by anyone of any age irrespective of gender.
The headache may be a sign of stress or emotional distress, or it may be the result of a medical condition, such as a migraine or high blood pressure, anxiety or depression.
Headache may occur on any part of the head, on either side of the head, or in one place.
There are different ways to define headaches.

 What is headache during pregnancy?

Pregnancy headaches are a common experience for expectant women.
While headaches can be a sign that you’re experiencing an imbalance, such as a lack of sleep, they are generally not a sign of danger to you or your baby.
However, there are some important exceptions to that rule.
Headache will commonly occur during the first and the third stage (trimester) of pregnancy but that does not mean that you will be totally free of headache during the second trimester.
First and third trimester is the time when you will feel intense headache and the intensity will be very low during the second trimester.

The circulating blood volume increases during the first trimester and so does the quantity of hormones in pregnant female’s body.
This sudden jump in quantities of hormones and blood in her body is the most prominent reason of headache
Stress, changes in vision, or bad posture may also result in headaches and pregnancy might not be the only reason

What are the causes of headache during pregnancy?

Before looking into all the different natural ways you can try to reduce headache pain – or even better prevent it altogether – it’s important to understand what some of the main triggers might be.

1.Dehydration

Your body needs all that water to create the huge water ck around your growing baby. Add 2-4 more glasses to your daily water intake during pregnancy.
Due to the loss of body fluids, the blood volume decreases, which leads to an overload of the heart and therefore the blood flow to the brain is compromised, which can cause you headaches.
Thus, good water consumption is essential during pregnancy.

2.Missed meal

Try to eat small but regular meals or at least have plenty f healthy snacks to go to if you feel hungry. Not only can missed meals cause headaches but also low blood sugar, dizziness, etc.

3.Certain foods or odors

If you notice a connection between certain foods or smells and your headache, avoid those.
For instance, my friend can’t stand the smell of her regular perfume now that she is pregnant. So no perfume for her now onwards.

4.Lack of sleep

It’s important to follow a regular sleep schedule. If you can have short afternoon naps, even better. Try to unplug from electronics and TV at least an hour before your bedtime so that nothing interferes with your sleep.

Get a good sleep.

If the sleeping pattern of the pregnant woman is not correct, it can lead to tension headache (type of headache). Tension headaches look like tight pain or dull, constant pain on both sides of the head or on the back of the neck. In addition, fatigue / tiredness can also lead to headaches.

Note: It is normal to have tension headaches in the first trimester of your pregnancy. However, in the second trimester, the headaches may decrease or go away once your body has gotten used to many changes due to pregnancy.

5.Exhaustion and stress

If you’re the type of person that will push through and just go go go. Take your headaches as a sign from your body to slow down. This is the time to take good care of yourself.
You might be in denial but sooner or later you’ll realize that you can’t continue doing as much as you used to before getting pregnant.
So give yourself some slack, slow down and make sure you find time to rest well, eat well and take good care of yourself.
